The Christian Post reports that the Bible is now available in a new translation — Twitter. The German language book, actually titled “And God Decided to Chill,” summarizes the 31,000-verse Bible in fewer than 4,000 tweets. Each “verse” of this “Twitter Bible” is under 140 characters long, leading to some paraphrased verses. For instance, the Genesis account of God resting after creation reads, “Thank God! It’s Sunday!” Melanie Huber, portal manager of the Protestant Web sitewww.evangelisch.de, which launched the project, said about the initiative: “We want with this action to encourage a debate about the Bible and to simultaneously show the modern possibilities that exist to receive and make known the Word of God,” according to Ecumenical News International.

September 30 is set as the observance of the first-ever International Blasphemy Day. This could be interesting.

All of the pastors I’ve met in South Africa thus far. But I especially appreciated this tid-bit from Grant Retief. Roughly quoted:

Gospel preaching is the first tier of AIDS ministry in South Africa–not orphan care or hospice. And that’s because AIDS is the only epidemic known to man that can be controlled by behavior. If people have their sexual behavior brought under the Lordship of Christ, it could change the impact of AIDS radically.

South Africa has the highest AIDS rate in the world. In one area, the average age has been lowered due to AIDS-related deaths from 67 to 37 in just about 20 years! Nothing I can Read the rest of this entry »

In John Piper’s latest, you’ll discover the gripping stories of William Tyndale, who died because he translatedGod’s Word into English; Adoniram Judson, whose mission to Burma paved the way for worldwide missionary mobilization; and John Paton, who led the hostile to Christ in the New Hebrides. Have you ever considered the fact that every word you say—every word—has the power to either hurt or heal?

You may think I exaggerate the power of words. A misspoken word here, a sarcastic quip there can hardly hurt a marriage, you think. When your mate makes a snide comment about the burnt toast at breakfast, it can’t be held against you if you snipe back that he never seems to notice when his toast is made to perfection. Tit for tat can’t do harm. Right? Think again.
